3D MODELS AND ANIMATION FOR ZOETROPE SCULPTURE (2016)

In 2016, I was asked by Lena Greene if I could help with a zoetrope sculpture for artist Camille Henrot. A previous zoetrope had been made using origami techniques, but for this one they wanted to 3D print the frames

First the dogs were drawn by Camille, Lena animated them in 2D, then I recreated the 2D animations in 3D, modeling, rigging, and animated them using Maya. I prototyped how they would be arranged in the final sculpture. Due to limitations of printer size and transportation requirements the piece had to be made in four parts. There was also going to be leashes connecting all the dogs to a central maypole so it was important to make sure that all of the leashes would be able to reach the maypole without interruption.

The final piece was in Camille Henrot’s 2016 show “Monday”, previously on display at Fondazione Memmo in Rome in 2016.
